Bubble Maru: A Festive Script Font for Joyful Campaign Visuals

A Real Campaign Moment: Designing a Holiday Teaser

It was the final stretch before our client’s holiday product launch, and the visuals needed a final touch of seasonal warmth. I was building a set of Instagram carousels and YouTube thumbnails when I stumbled upon Bubble Maru in our font library. The goal was to create visuals that felt playful, personal, and instantly recognizable in fast-scrolling feeds. This hand-lettered script font caught my eye with its bubbly curves and cheerful rhythm—perfect for a campaign centered around joy and gifting.

What Bubble Maru Is (And What It Feels Like)

Bubble Maru is a hand-drawn script typeface designed to evoke a sense of fun and approachability. Its rounded, slightly irregular letterforms give it a friendly, human quality—like a handwritten note from a close friend. The font leans into whimsy without veering into childish territory, making it ideal for seasonal campaigns, boutique branding, and creative content that needs to feel personal and inviting.

From a design standpoint, it’s a display font meant for visual impact rather than long-form readability. The personality of Bubble Maru shines in short, high-contrast text like headlines, callouts, or branded labels. It’s the kind of font that says, “This is a celebration,” without needing confetti or sparkles in the design.

Testing Bubble Maru Across Digital Campaign Assets

I first used Bubble Maru on a YouTube thumbnail concept. The text overlay needed to stand out instantly on mobile screens, and the word “New” in Bubble Maru gave the thumbnail a soft but eye-catching pop. The font’s natural bounce and spacing made it legible even at smaller sizes, especially against a light or semi-transparent background.

For Instagram Stories, I applied it to a series of quote graphics. The client wanted a “heartfelt but not overly formal” tone, and Bubble Maru delivered that perfectly. It worked beautifully over soft pastel gradients and light textures. On dark backgrounds, I slightly increased the stroke contrast and added a subtle drop shadow to maintain readability.

In a Pinterest campaign for a seasonal sale, I used it for the main headline: “Holiday Magic Starts Here.” The font’s soft edges and organic flow gave the pin a handmade charm that performed well in a feed dominated by clean, minimalist design trends.

Where Bubble Maru Shines—and Where It Doesn’t

This font excels in short-form, high-impact applications. Think:

However, Bubble Maru is not ideal for:

If you're designing a webinar banner or course launch graphic, Bubble Maru works well for the title or tagline, but I’d pair it with a clean sans serif for subheadings and details.

Readability Tips for Digital Use

When using Bubble Maru in digital content, keep these tips in mind:

Pairing Bubble Maru With Other Fonts

One of the most effective ways to use Bubble Maru is as a standout header paired with a more neutral font. Here are some pairing suggestions:

  1. With a clean sans serif (like Montserrat or Lato) for modern contrast in digital ads and landing pages.
  2. With a serif font (like Playfair Display) to create elegant-yet-playful packaging or editorial design.
  3. With another script font (for decorative accents or stylistic alternates) when designing logo-style headers or branded templates.

This font benefits from strong visual hierarchy. If you’re designing a branded template pack, consider using Bubble Maru for the title and a bolder sans serif for subheaders to maintain balance and readability.

What to Check Before Using Bubble Maru Commercially

Before deploying Bubble Maru in client work or digital products, always verify the following:

If you’re using it in a product launch or seasonal campaign, check if the font has a bold or italic weight to add visual depth without switching typefaces.
